RUSSIAN JUDAICA SILVER SALT AND PEPPER SHAKERS
A pair of matching Imperial Russian sterling silver salt and pepper shakers. The footed base supports the figurines of two Jewish musicians. The figures support a globular container with a padlock. A red stone cabochon garnished the lid. Hallmark 84 silver standard and makers marks are on the bottom of both items. Total Weight: 103 grams. The design of the pieces was inspired by spice towers, special containers for spices, and herbs used by the Jewish people on Shabbath and other religious holidays. Since the 16th century, they were usually executed in the form of a tower or a house. Collectible Judaica, Russian Silverware, And Tableware.
