ANCIENT NEAR EASTERN LIONS LEVANT LIMESTONE SEAL
An ancient Near Eastern carved Levant Limestone seal. The ware represents a scene with a couple of a man and a woman and a pair of lions. Ancient limestone seal is a remarkable relic from the Iron Age II period, 900 to 600 BC, a time when artistic expression in stone carving in the Levant reached new heights of sophistication. Such seals were integral to the bureaucratic systems of the time, used to authenticate documents and secure property.
