ANTIQUE 19TH C RUSSIAN ICON LORD ALMIGHTY IN RIZA - An antique late 19th-century Russian Orthodox icon representing Jesus in the Christ Pantocrator iconography, known in the Western Christianity as Christ in Majesty. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board. Silver riza or oklad with repousse floral decor and polychrome enamel accents, hallmark of 84 silver standard and makers marks are on the rim. Engraved indication of weight on the rim. The piece was presumably produced in Palekh, one of the largest centers of Russian icon painting and lacquer art. Russian Christian Religious Items and Collectibles, Icon Painting.
