FEDIR KONOVALIUK UKRAINIAN OIL LANDSCAPE PAINTING - Fedir Zotykovych Konovaliuk, 1890 to 1984, Ukrainian soviet era, an oil painting on cardboard depicting a landscape in warm tones. The scene is dominated by a line of trees, primarily pines and birches, that stretches across the middle ground. The trees are rendered with visible brushstrokes. The foreground is a relatively flat, open area of lighter toned grasses or meadow. The sky is a pale, muted color suggesting early morning or late afternoon light. The colors are generally muted and natural, with greens, browns, and yellows dominating the palette. Signed lower right. Fedir Zotykovych Konovalyuk was a painter, and graphic artist. He received his initial artistic skills in the icon painting workshop of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra. In the early 1900s, under the leadership of I. S. Izhakevich, he participated in the painting of churches in the Kiev Pechersk Lavra and in Yekaterinoslavl. Studied at the Kiev Art School with V. K. Menk, A. A. Murashko, the Higher Art School of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg with V. E. Makovsky, Kiev Art Institute with F. G. Krichevsky.
