ANTIQUE RUSSIAN VIRGIN MARY ICON IN 84 SILVER FRAME - An antique Russian Orthodox icon of the Domination of the Virgin Mary. The body of the Virgin Marys is surrounded by apostles and two bishops, a standing figure of Christ is depicted passing the soul of Mary in the shape of a swaddled infant) to two angels who will take it to heaven; above the figure of Christ appears a six winged seraphim spreading its wings in a sign of protection. Hand painted with tempera, gold leaf and gesso on a wood panel with kovcheg. Presented in an 84 Silver frame. marked with a Russian Silver standard hallmark and the other marks of the manufacturer.
