AFTER PAUL DELAROCHE HISTORICAL GENRE OIL PAINTING - Oil on canvas painting. After the artwork titled The Earl of Strafford Going to Execution by Paul Delaroche, 1797 to 1856, a French academic artist who is famous for his melodramatic depictions that often portrayed subjects from English and French history. This piece represents Thomas Wentworth, Earl of Strafford, who was a minister of Charles I of England. After a contest between the King and Parliament, John Pym launched Straffords impeachment and had him locked in the Tower in 1640. Strafford was beheaded at Tower Hill on 12 May 1641. The original artwork is now in the collection of His Grace the Duke of Sutherland. Signed by the artist in the lower left, T. Mounier. Golden frame. Collectible Fine Art, Historical Scene.
