AMERICAN PORTRAIT ETCHING ATTR MORRIS TOPCHEVSKY - An American portrait etching on paper titled A Cold Day attributed to Morris Topchevsky, 1899 to 1947, a Chicago based social realist artist. Circa early 20th century. The artwork depicts a portrait of a seated Native American woman wrapped in warm clothing. Signed in pencil lower right and titled lower left. Matted and framed. Morris Topchevsky graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago, where Albert Krehbiel was among his most important teachers. The artist traveled to Mexico City in the mid-1920s, when he was moved by the monumental public murals of Diego Rivera and Jose Clemente Orozco. By 1936, he was described as the leading leftist among Chicago artists. He created art that forthrightly protest discrimination, oppression, poverty, and intolerance, conveying his conviction of the power of art to improve society. Collectible Graphic Art Prints.
