JOHN THE FORERUNNER C 1800 - An antique Russian Orthodox icon of Holy John the Forerunner, hand painted circa 1800 with egg tempera and gilded halo on a gessoed wooden board with raised kovcheg borders. Four saints are depicted on the board of icon: the apostles Mark, Bartholomew, Thomas and Philip. John the Baptist is depicted frontally, in his left hand the saint holds a cup with the infant Christ, and with his right hand he points to the Child.
