An Antique Chinese Blue & White Porcelainr Plate - Decorated with atmospheric views of historic China, blue canton dinnerware has been a favorite since Colonial times and was even set on the table of President George Washington. Riverbank, mountains, and landscapes appear in finely shaded cobalt blues on the platter. The underside has a Chinese underglaze mark in blue. Ca. Qing Dynasty, 19th. Century. Size 9 1/4 X 11 1/4. Provenance: Collection of Edward Hyers Clayton (1886-1946). American writer and missioner. E.H. Clayton and his wife were missionaries of the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society in charge of Wayland Academy, a missionary school in Hangzhou, China from 1912 to 1942. E.H. Clayton wrote a book Heaven Below based on his living experience in China.
