The author, Rabbi Meir ibn Gabai (c.1480-1539) was a prominent kabbalist from the era of the Spanish expulsion. This is a fundamental kabbalistic commentary on the tefillot.
The Shelah copied many snippets from this work. He wrote in his introduction, “I am only trying to reveal a little of the little that I received from authors and books that continue from the Zohar, especially from …the G-dly Rabbi Meir Gabai z”l and the G-dly Mahram Cordovero …and the G-dly Arizal.
