In 1988— In 1990 he worked in workshops on Furmanny Lane, in 1990-1994 in workshops on Chistye Prudy. Since 1994 he has been a member of the Moscow Union of Artists. Lives and works in Moscow. “Champions of the World” is the most daring and cheerful association of the late 1980s and early 1990s, consistently ironizing the deadly seriousness of the artistic strategies of the older generation of Moscow conceptualists. “Champions” are famous for their absurd and often hooligan actions: for example, “Swings of Joy, ” when each of the group members, using all available means, drew something of their own on a sheet of paper attached to the wall; or “Gray Sea”, when Abramishvili brought a bottle of water from the White Sea, Zvezdochetov - from the Black Sea, and the participants dug a small hole in the ground, mixing water from both bottles, and it turned out to be the Gray Sea, about which appropriate notifications were sent to the official authorities. After the collapse of the group, Matrosov continued his independent career. He draws “pictures of pictures” - what, according to our ideas, is “normal”, as if visible to everyone: interiors, landscapes, using a minimum of means. In 2005, for the Art Field festival (curated by Aidan Salakhova), Matrosov came up with a large-scale text object “Happiness is just around the corner, ” which was subsequently installed on the Kama River in the city of Perm and became almost the official symbol of the city. In 2016, Matrosov placed an object on the roof of the Garage Museum based on the text from his own 2012 painting - “No, well, she couldn’t know what it was all about...”.
