Burliuk D. ”The peasant” - oil on canvas board 24*20 signed lower right DAVID BURLIUK [Burlyuk] (1882-1967) Kharkiv, Ukraine Descendant of Ukrainian Cossacks. Born in the village of Ryabushki near the town of Lebedin in the family of a self-taught agronomist David Fedorovich Burliuk, manager of the Chernodolinsky reserve estate of Count A. A. Mordvinov[5]. He had two brothers and three sisters - Vladimir, Nikolai, Lyudmila, Marianna and Nadezhda. Vladimir and Lyudmila became artists, Nikolai became a poet. They also participated in the Futurist movement. Since childhood, I have been interested in drawing[5]. He studied at the Alexander Gymnasium in the city of Sumy. As a child, David's brother accidentally lost his eye while playing with a toy gun. Subsequently, David walked with a glass eye; it became part of his style. For three years (1895-1898) he studied at the Tambov Men's Gymnasium[6][7][8]. Later, in 1898-1910, he studied at the Kazan and Odessa art schools. He made his debut in print in 1899. He studied painting in Germany, in Munich, at the Royal Academy with Professor Willy Dietz and the Slovenian Anton Ashbe, and in France, in Paris, at the Cormon School of Fine Arts.
