A magnificent dagger, probably from the period of the Crusades, Syria, 10th-13th (?) century. - Item details Description A magnificent dagger, probably from the period of the Crusades, Syria, 10th-13th (?) century. The fine gilt bronze grip rendered in Scythian motifs, including a lion crouching on the pommel and mounted shamans, one wearing an antlered headdress and the other a Phrygian cap; the guard of chiseled steel with fully-modeled lion’s heads. Knikok double-edged, showing layered construction throughout. Provenance: John Woodman Higgins Armory Museum, Worcester, Ma., Auctions Imperial Inc, March 20, 2011, lot 112.
