A Rare Ornate Cuirass, Breastplate, Northern Italy, circa 1580. - Item details Description A Rare Ornate Cuirass, Breastplate, Northern Italy, circa 1580. Forged, steel Breastplate of peascod form, with gussets, the upper edges ridged and roped, the lower edge flanged to receive the skirt. The decoration consists of bands of etched ornament widening towards the top, deeply etched with trophies of arms, mystical animals, birds, cornucopias, etc., on a granular ground, in the so-called ”Pisan style”. In the upper part there are two round medallions with the image of a man and a woman looking at each other. A wonderful Renaissance collectible. Height 48 cm.
