Magnificent Silver-Gilt Yataghan, Ottoman Empire (Greece), circa 1800. - Item details Description Magnificent Silver-Gilt Yataghan, Ottoman Empire (Greece), circa 1800. An exceptional example of an 18th–19th century Ottoman yataghan, likely crafted in the Greek provinces of the empire. The deeply curved steel blade features the traditional single-edge profile typical of yataghans. The hilt and scabbard are remarkable works of art—both are made of finely embossed silver with rich gilding, exhibiting a dense vegetal and floral motif in the Ottoman Baroque style. The hilt is capped with a characteristic ”eared” pommel, covered in ornate repoussé silverwork and highlighted with gilded accents. This lavish weapon reflects both the martial prestige and the opulence of its noble or high-ranking owner. A museum-quality piece representing the refined artistry of silversmiths active in the Balkans. Very good, condition, blade with age-related patina, silver and gilding well preserved. Length 68 cm.
