Description

A French Model 1892 Mannlicher-Berthier Artillery Carbine Bayonet. This French Model 1892 bayonet is a quintessential example of late 19th-century military ordnance, designed specifically for the Mannlicher-Berthier series of artillery carbines including the Model 1892 and 1916, Extensively utilized across the French colonial empire, notably in territories such as French Guiana, the bayonet features a straight, single-edged steel blade with a deep longitudinal fuller and a symmetrical spear point. The hilt is constructed with a steel crossguard incorporating a muzzle ring and a signature downward-hooked quillon, while the grip is composed of two contoured wooden scales secured to the tang by flush-set steel rivets. The ricasso is struck with circular arsenal inspection stamps, and the quillon bears the stamped serial number 51651. Housed in its original metal scabbard, the piece measures approximately 53 cm. The item is in good condition.
