Robert Maione (1932 - 1987) Oil on panel, signed lower left John Pence Gallery label on verso, measures 7.5 x 11 inches and 11 x 14.5 inches w/frame. Born in New York in 1932, 20th century American landscape painter Robert Maione studied at the Art Students League with Frank Vincent DuMond, Frank Mason and Arthur Maynard. Maione painted and held studios in New York City and Vermont and traveled widely painting in Mexico, throughout Central and South America, Morocco, Spain, Greece, France, England, Italy and the Pacific Islands. He settled in Rome where he painted and studied masterpieces in the museums and eventually purchased a home and studio in the Italian village of Agello.Maione was a member of and exhibited at the Salmagundi Club in New York City. He also exhibited at the Berkshire Museum, Vermont; Galleria 88, Rome, Italy; Galleria Selene, Cortina, Italy; Capricorn Gallery, Maryland; Allied Artists of America, New York; National Arts Club, New York; Ridgewood Art Institute, New Jersey; Lawrence Museum; National Academy of Design, New York, Sagittarius Gallery, New York; Southern Vermont Art Center, Vermont; Bodley Gallery, New York; Lesley Frost Ballentine Studio, New York; The Wickersham Gallery, New York; Harbor Gallery, New York and in galleries throughout Washington D.C., Pennsylvania and Connecticut. More than 600 of Maione’s paintings are held in private and public collections worldwide.
