GEORG-HANS REINHARDT - WAR MERIT CROSS GROUPING
(1887 - 1963) German General, recipient of the Knightscross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords. Replaced Walter Model as commander of Army Group Center. Tried at Nuremberg as a war criminal. Award document for the War Merit Cross Second Class with Swords issued to Gefreiter ALOIS KAFFL, signed in pencil by GEORG-HANS REINHARDT as Generaloberst and supreme commander of the 3rd Panzerarmee, A.H.Qu. (Armeehauptquartier - army headquarters) 30. January 1944. Included is the War Merit Cross Second Class with Swords awarded to Kaffl, attached to a piece of red velveteen, a b/w photo portrait of Alois Kaffl in his Panzer uniform, 3.5 x 5.5 inches, and a smaller photograph of the soldier sitting on a German tank, 2 3/8 x 3 3/8 inches. Very good.
