A RUSSIAN AVANT GARDE MIXED MEDIA PAINTING
A watercolor and gouache with pen and ink on paper abstract drawing. Signed and dated by the author lower left "V.K. 23".
This work is attributed to Kandinsky. We do not have the COA.
Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky (1866-1944) was a Russian and French artist and theorist, one of the pioneers of abstraction in Western art. After successful avant-garde exhibitions, he founded the influential Munich group Der Blaue Reiter - The Blue Rider, 1911–14, and began completely abstract painting. Taught at the Bauhaus School of Art and Architecture from 1922 until the Nazis closed it in 1933.
Provenance: According to the current owner the painting was brought from the Soviet Union to Germany where the work was purchased by the owner in the 1970's.
