CA. 1892 FRENCH PORTABLE CRUCIFIX SHRINE, FOLDING CASE, BOUASSE-JEUNE CO.
A Parisian portable shrine in a beautifully gilt and shaped leather case with a red velvet lined interior. Kept within the case is a silver crucifix with mother of pearl ornamentation to the front, the rear being engraved with the text 'Alix a Agnes 12 Mar 1892' indicating that this was a gift. Also kept within the case are two sculptures, one of Mary with her arms spread wide, the other of Joseph with the infant Jesus in his arms. This piece was produced for the Bouasse-Jeune company in Paris and retains two old labels under the folding stand on the verso of the case.
