A RUSSIAN ART NOUVEAU SILVER TEA-GLASS HOLDER

Of elegant flaring cylindrical form with openwork cut geometric decoration in the Art Nouveau taste, the upper rim featuring stylized architectural cutouts and the lower section pierced with arched motifs. The front is engraved with an ornate Cyrillic monogram "ИС" above a finely inscribed date 30th march 1927. The gracefully curved handle is ornamented with chased scrollwork and leaf details.

Hallmarks: Kokoshnik mark for Imperial Russia, 84 silver standard, maker’s mark "ВА" (Cyrillic).

Weight: 5.6 oz. (approx. 159 g.)

This tea-glass holder is a classic example of Russian Art Nouveau silverwork from the early 20th century. The interplay of geometric cutouts and flowing lines exemplifies the transition from historicist revival forms toward the sinuous, modern aesthetic of pre-revolutionary Moscow design.
