A RUSSIAN PARCEL GILT SILVER GLASSHOLDER, MOSCOW, CIRCA 1890S–1900S

Cylindrical silver glass holder with a cast and chased handle of sinuous Art Nouveau scroll design, the body applied with a relief medallion featuring a putto within foliate rocaille framing. The interior is richly gilded; the exterior is polished to a soft sheen with fine hand-finished detail.

Hallmarkes: Maker’s mark ПA (P.A.) and Moscow assay mark (woman’s head in kokoshnik facing right with "84" zolotnik standard) appear on the body, near the applied ornament and beneath the base.

Stylistic Note: The applied decoration with a playful cherub and rocaille border blends late-Empire and early-Modernist tendencies typical of Moscow silver workshops at the turn of the century. This transitional aesthetic, with delicate repoussé ornamentation and asymmetrical scrollwork, reflects the influence of the French Art Nouveau movement on Russian silver design in the decades preceding 1917.
