A GERMAN ART DECO WHITE PORCELAIN FIGURE OF A MODERN LADY BY PAUL SCHEURICH, CIRCA 1930

White glazed porcelain figure depicting a standing modern lady modeled in the interwar Art Deco idiom with elongated proportions a subtly tilted head and stylized facial features. The figure is dressed in contemporary fashion with a fitted bodice belted at the waist and a long flaring skirt articulated with gently flowing planes. The restrained modeling of the smooth, unbroken surfaces and the emphasis on silhouette rather than surface ornament are characteristic of German Art Deco figural design of the late 1920s and early 1930s and reflect the sculptural language popularized by Paul Scheurich and his circle. The figure stands on an angular integral base and is executed in blanc de blanc porcelain, emphasizing purity of form and architectural balance. Typical of secondary German manufactories producing modernist decorative figures for domestic interiors during the interwar period.
