A MEISSEN PORCELAIN FIGURE "MOHR MIT KAKADU", MODELED BY PAUL SCHEURICH, GERMANY, FIRST HALF 20TH CENTURY

Porcelain modeled as a dynamic standing male figure in flowing exotic costume captured in mid-motion, wearing a turbaned headdress and long billowing robe tied at the waist, the composition animated by an expressive pose and theatrical gesture. The figure supports a large cockatoo perched on his shoulder, the bird rendered with outspread wings and finely detailed plumage, emphasizing movement and contrast within the composition. The palette is restrained yet elegant with translucent white glaze accented by soft lilac pink, turquoise, and yellow details, characteristic of Meissen Art Deco and exoticist figural production of the interwar period. The sculptural modeling displays elongated proportions, rhythmic drapery and a modern decorative sensibility typical of Paul Scheurich’s work for the Meissen Manufactory during the 1920s and 1930s. The figure is mounted on an integral oval base enriched with stylized foliage and wave motifs.

The verso bears the underglaze blue crossed swords mark of the Meissen Manufactory, indicating first-quality production, together with impressed and painted factory numerals. Designed by Paul Scheurich, one of Meissen’s most important 20th-century sculptors, whose work introduced the Art Deco movement and expressive modernity into the factory’s figural repertoire.
