A MEISSEN PORCELAIN FIGURAL GROUP "DAME MIT AMOR" BY PAUL SCHEURICH, C. 1923

Modeled as an elegant seated lady lifting her skirt to reveal a stockinged leg, accompanied by a small winged Amor climbing beside her and leaning against a richly decorated cushion, the composition is conceived in the refined and subtly erotic idiom characteristic of Paul Scheurich’s early 1920s work for the Meissen manufactory. The female figure is rendered with elongated proportions and a calm self-possessed expression, her features delicately painted with softly shaded flesh tones, rouge accents, and fine detailing to the eyes and lips. Her coiffure is arranged with style, enhanced with colored accents, while the bodice and flowing skirt are articulated through delicate modeling and blue details, emphasizing the folds and movement. The cushion beneath her foot is polychrome painted with floral sprays and decorative banding, providing a vivid chromatic counterpoint to the restrained palette of the figure. The Amor, with violet-tinted wings and youthful expression reinforces the theme of refined intimacy and allegory through playful symbolism. The octagonal base is molded with geometric panels and subtle relief ornament, typical of Meissen sculptural bases of the period.

The underside bears the underglaze blue crossed swords mark of the Meissen manufactory, together with impressed and incised factory marks including model and pressing numbers consistent with the documented model "Dame mit Amor", designed by Paul Scheurich and first executed circa 1923.
