A CHINESE EXPORT HAND-PAINTED PORCELAIN TEA SET, CA. 1880

A hand-painted Chinese porcelain tea set consisting of one covered teapot and five matching tea cups. Each piece is decorated with a turquoise ground and an intricate design of flowering branches, stylized foliate scrolls, and brightly colored birds in flight. The decoration is executed in famille rose style enamels with added gilt details that enhance the ornate patterning. The teapot has a domed lid topped with a gilded finial and is further decorated on the spout and handle with gilt scrollwork. The undersides of the pieces are unmarked except for handwritten characters on the inner rim of the teapot.

This type of decoration is typical of export porcelain made for the domestic and overseas market during the late Qing period and early Republic era. The vibrant palette and detailed brushwork demonstrate skilled manufacture and a high level of craftsmanship.

Condition: Overall very good condition with minor wear to enamels and light rubbing to gilt consistent with age. No visible cracks or hairlines. Small firing imperfections on the interior of the teapot and on the bases of the cups.
