Famous French painter. He studied from his father F.L. Svebakh (Fontaine), then from M. Duplessy in Paris. He made his debut in 1783 at the Salon Correspondence. In 1791-1822 he was exhibited at the Louvre Salon. From 1802 to 1813 - artist of the Sevres porcelain manufactory. In 1815, at the invitation of Count D.A. Guryev, he came to Russia as the chief artist of the Imperial Porcelain Factory. In 1820 he returned to his homeland, receiving the Order of St. Anne.
He had an immense popularity among the Russian aristocracy. Father of the artist B.E. Svebakh.
