NAPOLEON I: (1769-1821) Emperor of France 1804-14, 1815. L.S. `Np´, one page, gilt edges, 4to, Paris, 11th February 1813, to the Duc de Feltre, Minister of War, in French. Napoleon dictates the letter to Baron Fain, referring to Belgium and to the need of sending cavaliers, and states `Dans la conscription de 1814, il faudrait faire fournir beaucoup d´hommes a cheval par la 32º division et par le département de la Lippe, et en prendre moins en Italie pour la cavalerie, les Italiens étant moins propres au service de cette armée…´ (“In the conscription of 1814, it would be necessary to make provide by the 32nd division and by the department of Lippe many horsemen with horses, and to take less in Italy for the cavalry, the Italians being less suitable to the service for this army..”) Accompanied by a small 12mo holograph receipt.
