COLETTE: (1873-1954) - COLETTE: (1873-1954) French Novelist, best known for her novel Gigi. A.L.S., ` Colette ´, one page, 4to, blue paper, n.p., [Var], n.d. [June 1928], in French. On her printed stationery of the La Treille Muscate, Route des Cannebiers, Saint Tropez, Colette starts her response to her correspondent in a sharp and short way, stating ` Quand je pourrai, Monsieur.´ (“When I will be able to, Monsieur”) Colette further explains with an amusing conclusion her situation and the pressure she is feeling with the writing of her book, saying ` …aucun projet ne m´est permis, à cause d´un damné livre, dont les premières pages me donnent tant de peine, que vraiment un de ces jours j´entrerai dans l´ébénisterie!´ (“…no project is allowed to me, because of a damned book, the first pages of which give me so much pain, that really one of these days I will go into cabinetmaking!”) Bearing a crowned Montevrain watermark.
