Lanceray expresses his great pleasure in responding to his correspondent's flattering request, adding 'mais je ne peux pas vous cacher ma grande surprise et curiosite comment mes modeste oeuvres ont pu eiveiller votre attention, et encore dans un pays si lointain' (Translation: 'but I cannot hide from you my great surprise and curiosity how my modest works have been able to arouse your attention, and even in such a distant country' ) Hand addressed by Lanceray to Fonesca in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
