Connaitriez-vous quelque vive redhibition a la dite maison? Vous m'obligeriez beaucoup en me donnant un mot de reponse’ (Translation: ‘There is an apartment to rent in your house that I am tempted to take. Do you know of any strong redhibition at the said house? You would oblige me greatly by giving me a word of reply’ ). With integral address leaf in Merimee’s hand. VG Merimee’s correspondent was either Felix Bonnaire, or his brother Florestan, co-owners of the monthly French literary, cultural and current affairs magazine Revue des deux Mondes with Charles Buloz. At the time their headquarters were at 10 Rue des Beaux-Arts and Merimee, leaving the nearby Rue des Marais-Saint-Germain (today Rue Visconti) planned to take an apartment in the building.
