CHAPLIN CHARLES: (1889-1977) - CHAPLIN CHARLES: (1889-1977) English film comedian, Academy Award winner. A wonderful vintage signed 8 x 10 photograph of Chaplin, the image depicting him seated outdoors in a full-length pose, in costume as the Little Tramp, alongside actress Merna Kennedy, a circus rider and stepdaughter of her ringmaster, in a scene from Chaplin's silent romantic comedy film The Circus (1928). Signed by Chaplin in black fountain pen ink to a clear area of the image, also adding the film's title in his hand beneath his signature. Chaplin has further added the name of his co-star to the image, the surname running into a dark area. Signed photographs of Chaplin of this quality, showing him in his most famous screen persona, are scarce and highly desirable. Some very light, extremely minor age wear, VG The Circus (1928) is the seventh highest grossing silent film in cinema history. Chaplin was presented with a Special Academy Award in 1928 for ‘acting, writing, directing and producing’ the film.
