A.L.S., Marc Chagall , one page, 4to, Villa Eugene Manuel (Paris), 7th October 1938, to 'Monsieur le Ministre' , in French. Chagall apologises for his insistence and expresses his gratitude for the kindness that has already been shown to his son-in-law, Michel Rapaport, although continues 'Si je viens vous opportuner (sic) maintenant c'e[st] que je voudrais beaucoup vous demander un dernier conseil. Pourriez vous m'accorder, si possible prochainement, un entretien de quel ques minutes? Je vous en serai personnellement bien reconnaissant' (Translation: ' If I have come to bother you now, it is because I would very much like to ask you for one last piece of advice. Could you grant me an interview of a few minutes, if possible soon? I would be very grateful' ). With a blue indelible pencil annotation at the head of the page indicating that the Minister granted Chagall a personal audience on Tuesday (11th October) at 10 o'clock.
