BENTHAM JEREMY: (1748-1832) - BENTHAM JEREMY: (1748-1832) English philosopher, jurist and social reformer, regarded as the founder of modern utilitarianism. Autograph address panel signed (' Jeremy Bentham '), addressed in his hand to Henry Brougham Esq. at Lincoln's Inn. Very slightly irregular edges and with a couple of very small holes to the left edge. A light area of discolouration to the left only very slightly affects Bentham's forename. About VG Henry Brougham (1778-1868) British statesman who served as Lord High Chancellor 1830-34 and was an advocate of liberal causes including abolition of the slave trade. Brougham had entered Lincoln's Inn in 1803.
