NAZARIANTZ HRAND: (1886-1962) - NAZARIANTZ HRAND: (1886-1962) Ottoman-Armenian Poet. Candidate to the Literature Nobel Prize. Nazariantz was sentenced to death in absentia by a court of the Ottoman Empire in 1913, he found asylum in the Italian Consulate of Constantinople, and once he obtained the nationality following marriage to the Italian singer Maddalena De Cosmis, he moved to Bari in exile. An excellent signed and inscribed 6.5 x 8.5 photograph by Nazariantz, the image showing the Armenian Poet in a half-length pose, attractively signed and inscribed to an Italian journal, in bold black ink, ` al ”Pensiero” con simpatia, Hrand Nazariantz´, to the upper left corner. Also dated in his hand Nor Arax, 1927. Crease to the lower left corner and very small silvering to the lower border, otherwise G The foundation of Nor Arax was a village for Armenian exiles in the countryside of Bari, whose population helped nourish the production of carpets and lace. Today, what is left of Nor Arax is a few of the original houses as well as the columns at the entrance of the village on which the words ”Nor Arax” (in both English and Armenian) are engraved.
