DALI SALVADOR: (1904-1989) Spanish surrealist artist. Signed 8 x 10 photograph of Dali standing in a three-quarter length pose before his painting Christ of Saint John of the Cross (1951) and holding his cane to a detail on the shoulder of the figure of Christ. Signed (´Dali´) with a hurried signature in blue ink to a lighter area of the image. The contrast of the signature is a little weak, although legible. Loosely contained in a folio presentation folder bound in pale beige cloth and with a stamped title (´Christ of St John of the Cross Autographed by Salvador Dali´) to the front cover. VG

Dali´s oil painting Christ of Saint John of the Cross is housed in the collection of the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow. The Glasgow Corporation acquired the painting in 1952, the purchase causing some controversy at the time. The price of £8,200 was considered excessive at the time, however it was less than the £12,000 catalogue price, and included the copyright, which has earned Glasgow Museums back the original cost many times over.
