Collection of illustrations, a draft for a children's book and an interactive children's book by Edith Samuel (1907-1964).
1. "Makolet" (Grocery Store), an interactive children's book. Figures of buyers and products inserted into slots. Tel-Aviv: "Pressa", [1940s?].
2. Four ink and watercolor illustrations, signed by Samuel. Three are dated, 1962-1963.
Each leaf 22.5X22.5 cm. Good condition. Some stains.
3. Draft for a rhymed children's book, handwritten and hand-illustrated. On the title page: "'Handpause' für Friedrich Königsfeld, von Edith Samuel aus ihrer 'Schlingelei' zum 31. Mai 1962" ['Handpause' by Edith Samuel from her book ' Schlingelei', for Friedrich Königsfeld for May 31, 1962]. Presumably has not been published.
Another handwritten copy (titled "Schlingel") is listed in OCLC.

Edith Samuel (1907-1964), a doll-maker and illustrator, born in Essen. In 1925-1930, she studied sculpture and graphic arts at the Folkwangschule in Essen and at the Düsseldorf Academy of Art. In 1933-1938 she lived and worked in Berlin, where she operated a marionette theater. She worked as a sculptor, doll-maker and illustrator and also created custom-made fabric portrait dolls as souvenirs for families loved ones left Germany due to the deteriorating situation of the Jews. In 1939, she immigrated to Palestine, settling in Rishon LeZion with her sister, ceramic artist Chava (Eva) Samuel, and her brother, composer Yochanan Samuel. In Palestine, she started creating dolls representing various cultures and segments of Israeli society. She taught doll-making in WIZO workshops and participated in various exhibitions around the world.
