Shemot Tzimchei Eretz Yisrael, by the Well-Known Researcher Efrayim Ha'Reuveni - Author's Dedication and Significant Correction Handwritten by Him
Shemot Tzimchei Eretz Yisrael (The Names of the Plants of the Land of Israel), by the Well-Known Researcher Efrayim Rabinowitz (Ha'Reuveni). Booklet A (additional ones were not printed). Published by the teachers of the Hebrew schools of Jerusalem. Jerusalem, 1917.
The Ottoman period: "The price of the booklet in the Land of Israel two Bishliks". Shmuel Zuckerman printing press.
An important book, first of its kind, and the foundation of a complete enterprise that continues to this day.
At the beginning of the booklet, a dedication handwritten by the author: "To our dear friend Mr. Zelig Weizmann, for old time's sake, by the author, Jerusalem, between Yom Kippur and Sukkot". (Zelig Weizmann was an important Zionist activist, one of the founders of 'Ha'Shomer Ha'Tza'ir' and well-known collector).
At the beginning of the booklet, an important preface by the author about his work.
The booklet contains a long list of plants and flowers with their new Hebrew names. Beside some of the plants, the author explains where they grow.
In two places, the printed name is erased (most likely by the author, Efrayim Ha'Reuveni) and under it, a new name was written!
Efrayim Ha'Reuveni (1881-1953) was a botanist who studied the plants of the Land of Israel. He established a research approach that integrates the natural sciences with linguistics, the Bible and folklore in order to draw a complete picture of plants as part of a geographic-cultural-historical web. To this day he is considered the best expert in his field.
To continue his father's enterprise, his son, Nogah Ha'Reuveni, established 'Ne'ot Kedumim' in 1965.
[3] 26pp. Hebrew, Latin and Arabic in Roman letters.
