Masechet Taanis and Moed Katan and the Rif with handwritten chiddushim. Lemberg (like the Slavita edition), 1862. Leather binding from the period.
Volume containing tractates Taanis and Moed Katan from the Talmud Bavli, “with all of the commentaries printed previously in Slavita and Vilna”, with additions. Additional title page for the Rif (Rav Elfas). Two title pages for Masechet Taanis. Appears to be a complete copy—not checked on a page-by-page basis. Leather binding from the period, reinforced with tape, stains, a few detached pages, overall good condition.
The back of the binding and the blank leaves feature chiddushei torah and notes handwritten in a cramped style. The front blank leaf has chiddushim for Masechet Taanis and the back has for Moed Katan. The writer discusses sugiyot and the points raised by the Rishonim. The volume itself and the chiddushim testify to the hard work of Jews in the Diaspora for the Torah. The person’s identity is unknown.
