Yakovlev Alexander Evgenievich (1887, St. Petersburg - 1938. Paris). He received his art education at the St. Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts (1905-1913), in the workshop of D.N. Kardovsky. Since his apprenticeship, he has worked as an illustrator in periodicals. Since 1909, he began to participate in exhibitions. In 1913, Yakovlev received the title of artist and a retirement trip abroad. He spent 1913-1915 in Italy, where he studied old painting. He tried his hand at monumental and decorative art. Together with V.I. Shukhaev, he painted the ceiling in the Firsanov mansion in Moscow; together with B.D. Grigoriev and S.Yu. Sudeikin designed the artistic cabaret "Halt of Comedians" in Petrograd. Yakovlev was also engaged in pedagogical work: he taught at women's architectural courses, as well as at the New Art Workshop and the Institute of Art History. In 1917, he initiated the creation of the "Workshop of painters of St. Luke".
In the summer of 1917, Yakovlev, as a pensioner, went to Mongolia, China and Japan. Subsequently, the artist settled in Paris, and his later life was spent abroad. In 1924-1925, he took part in an expedition to North and Central Africa organized by the Citroen company. As a result of the trip, he was awarded the Legion of Honor. In 1931-1932, the artist again went on an expedition to the countries of the East - visited Syria, Iran, Afghanistan, Mongolia and China. In 1934, Yakovlev received an invitation to take a position as a professor at the Academy of Arts in Boston. He lived in the USA until 1938, then moved to Paris.
