Icon of Socialist Realism. One of the brightest masters of the second half of the twentieth century. The author's style is formed under the strong influence of the Russian avant-garde. He combined accurate drawing and tone modeling with a free pictorial manner, turning into expressionism. People's Artist of the USSR. Academician of the Academy of Arts. His teachers were I. Brodsky and A. Osmerkin. He led the studio at the Academic Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, brought up several generations of artists.
