Mikhnov-Voitenko Evgeniy Grigorievich (1932-1988). Abstract expressionism. The Russian artist belonged to “unofficial art”. Graduated from the production department of the Theater Institute, course teacher Nikolai Akimov. Oleg Tselkov and Eduard Kochergin studied at the same time as Mikhnov. The artist’s constant creative experiments and his use of a wide variety of materials and techniques gave rise to his own unique style, the pinnacle of which were the works of the 1970s and 1980s. By this time, Mikhnov-Voitenko completely abandoned the technique of working in oil on canvas, as well as graphics, focusing on tempera. The main theme of his work was the square; as the artist himself believed, with the help of these paintings he tried to find a way out of the impasse into which Kazimir Malevich’s “Black Square” was dragging contemporary art. Mikhnov-Voitenko's works of this period are extremely diverse in their combination of colors, distinguished by their rich coloristic search and richness of composition. They contain both gloomy colors - black, brown - and various shades of blue, green, gray, red, beige.
