Elena Ivanovna Molokhovets (1831-1918) is a classic of Russian culinary literature, the author of the famous book "A Gift to Young Housewives, or a Means to Reduce Household Expenses" (1861), containing about 2,500 recipes and descriptions of methods for preparing various dishes.

"A Gift to Young Housewives, or a Means to Reduce Household Expenses" is a cookbook written by a classic of Russian culinary literature, E. I. Molokhovets, and first published on May 20, 1861. The book has gone through dozens of reprints and was one of the most popular books in pre-revolutionary housekeeping. Over the 50 years since the publication of the first edition, the circulation was 300 thousand copies. This unique collection of recipes of Russian cuisine was originally published as a manual to help young housewives run their household. The book contains recipes for vegetarian and Lenten meals, examples of table setting and dishes, and descriptions of various supplies needed in the household.
