Group of five antique ukiyo-e Japanese woodblock prints including:
Utagawa Hiroshige (Japanese, 1797-1858). Triptych titled "Gishi Katakiuchi no Zu (Revenge of the Loyal Samurai)" depicting the ronin assembled before the castle of Ko no Moronao before attacking, ca. 1846.
Ryusai Shigeharu (Japanese, 1803-1853). Kabuki print depicting the actor Nakamura Utaemon as a samurai.
Print depicting a village, possibly by Hiroshige and Eisen.
Utagawa Kunisada "Utagawa Toyokuni III" (Japanese, 1786-1865). "Kanadehon Chushingura, Act 6" depicting two Ronin questioning Kampei. In the background, his lover Okaru is taken away to a brothel.
Print depicting a woman in a bathhouse.
(Sheet, each) height ranges from 8 1/2 in to 15 in; width ranges from 9 in to 29 1/2 in. (Matted, each) height ranges from 11 in to 18 in; width ranges from 14 in to 36 in.
Condition: The colors are faded and the sheets and mats are toned. Wear throughout including handling marks and frits along the extreme edges. There is more significant wear along the triptych which includes deep creases consistent with being folded, some losses along the edges of the print, heavy losses to the mat, and small tears.
