SOUTINE CHAIM: (1893-1943) French Painter of Lithuanian Jewish origin. Considered a leading figure of the Abstract-Expressionism. A.L.S., `Soutine´, one page, 8vo, Paris, 6th May 1932, to Monsieur Lerouya, in French. Soutine is back in Paris and states in part `..I returned yesterday quite pessimistic. My stomach is not fine, and not a painting. I intend to stay some days in Paris in order to follow my regime more seriously… and later I will go to Chartres where I will be able to work.´, and before concluding Soutine says `Come to see me this evening after dinner, we will go somewhere and we will talk.´ The letter is a carte pneumatique, addressed to the verso in Soutine´s hand, postmarked and post-stamped.
