Letter in the Handwriting and with the Signature of Rabbi Yitzchak Ya'akov Reines, Rabbinical Judge of Lida, to Reb Chaim Yisrael Eiz of Switzerland, Lida 1910
Letter concerning public matters in the handwriting and with the signature of Rabbi Yitzchak Ya'akov Reines, the rabbi of Lida, among the founders of 'Ha'Mizrachi' and its first president. 1910.
The letter is addressed to Reb Chaim Yisrael Eiss, who then was only twenty four years old and who was among the followers of Rabbi Reines until 1912, when he left Ha'Mizrachi and was among the founders of Agudat Yisrael. In the letter, Rabbi Reines complains about letters he has not received and more. The letter also mentions the painter Herman Struck.
Rabbi Yitzchak Ya'akov Reines (1840-1915), rabbi and Av Beit Din of Lida, was a great Torah scholar in Lithuania. Unlike many of the rabbis of his time, he was greatly impressed by Theodor Herzl's idea of a "State" and publicly supported it. In 1902 he founded 'Ha'Mizrcahi' Movement and served as its first president. Among others, he wrote the books 'Edut Be'Ya'akov' and 'Or Chadash al Zion'.
