AN AMERICAN COMMEMORATIVE WASHINGTON RIBBONS
A set of two antique commemorative George Washington silk ribbons. Firs: New York American Republican Association Ribbon (ca. 1800-1844). Contains images of an eagle, George Washington, and the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The eagle holds a ribbon reading "Americans their own rulers". Second: ribbon related with the Washington Benevolent Societies of Saratoga County (ca. 1800-1850) - series of local political clubs in the United States in the first part of the 19th century. Ribbons with George Washington's portrait and the words "Pro Patria" (For Country) printed on silk or vellum issued to members of the Societies and become one of the first mass-produced
