The role of the Jewish police in the ghetto was to fulfill the demands of the Germans, and it also performed functions involving the activities of the Jews on the Jewish street without any direct connection to the German demands. In the Lodz ghetto, there were about 1,200 policemen in the Jewish ghetto police. According to David Brin's testimony about the Jewish police in the Lodz ghetto, in the first months the Jewish population did not treat the Jewish police negatively because they played a role in maintaining order. Only later, when the Jewish police began searching for and confiscating property, did the Jewish masses began to hate them.
