Dumas sends his condolences to his correspondent, son in law of Marshal Bugeaud who has passed away, stating in part `Allow me, as a man close to your family by the most real links, those of recognition, to lament together with you the horrible disaster which has hit you..´. Dumas explains that he has been also himself ill, and did not learn about the Marshal´s news until yesterday, saying `Poor Marshal. I had dinner with him eight days ago at the President´s home, and I did wish him at his 80 years the boulet de Turenne or of Brewick...´, Dumas referring to a glorious military death.
