LEWIS C. S.: (1898-1963) Irish Novelist & Academic, author of The Chronicles of Narnia. Autograph envelope signed, with his initials ('CSL') in the lower left corner, addressed by Lewis to Mrs. [Daniel] Neylan at Plas Brondance, Llanfrothen, Merioneth, Wales and postmarked at Oxford, 3rd April 1939. A few irregular tears to the upper edge caused by the original opening of the envelope, not affecting the text or signature. About VG Mary Shelley, later Mrs. Daniel Nylan, was a student of Lewis's at Magdalen College, Oxford, in the early 1930s. They later entered into correspondence, Lewis sending suggested reading lists and other advice. In late March 1939 Nylan gave birth to a daughter and Lewis is documented as having sent her a letter of congratulations.
